Editorial Policy
GrowDwell exists to help people grow indoor plants successfully —
especially in small spaces and pet-friendly homes. Every guide on
this site follows the standards below.
How We Choose Topics
We write about plants and topics that:
- Our readers are actively searching for and struggling with
- We have personal experience growing or troubleshooting
- We can cover with real depth, not surface-level summaries
How We Research
For every plant guide, we consult at least 2-3 of the following
authoritative sources:
- University agricultural extension publications (Cornell, UC Davis,
Royal Horticultural Society) - ASPCA Toxic and Non-Toxic Plant List (for all pet safety claims)
- Peer-reviewed horticultural research
- Established botanical gardens and arboretums
- Our own hands-on growing experience
Hands-On Testing
Whenever possible, we grow the plants we write about in our own
homes. When personal experience isn’t available, we say so
explicitly and rely on verified sources.
We share:
- What worked (with real photos when possible)
- What failed and why
- Honest timelines (not “3 weeks” when it actually took 3 months)
Fact-Checking
Every article is reviewed by a second person on our team before
publication. Plant toxicity, hardiness zones, and scientific names
are double-checked against authoritative sources.
Updates and Corrections
Houseplant care knowledge evolves. We update articles when:
- New research changes a recommendation
- Reader feedback identifies an issue
- We discover something didn’t work as written
Each article displays its “Last updated” date. Spotted an error?
Email [email protected] and we’ll review within 48 hours.
AI and Content Generation
GrowDwell does not publish AI-generated content as-is. AI tools may
assist with research summaries or grammar checks, but every article
is written, edited, and personally reviewed by a human author with
relevant gardening experience.
Affiliate Disclosure
Some articles contain affiliate links. If you purchase through them,
we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only link
to products we’d use ourselves and disclose affiliate relationships
clearly within each article.
What We Don’t Do
- We don’t accept paid placements disguised as recommendations
- We don’t publish content without personal review by a team member
- We don’t recommend plants or products we haven’t researched
- We don’t make veterinary claims — for plant poisoning emergencies,
contact your vet or the ASPCA Poison Control immediately.
